New Ambassador to the United States

On Thursday, 24th of March 2016, the Marshall Islands Nitijela (Parliament) approved Gerald Zackios as the new Ambassador to the United States as appointed by President Hilda C. Heine.

Ambassador Zackios, prior to his appointment, served as Director of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community North Pacific Regional Office based in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (2013-2016).

He previously served as Vice-Speaker of the Nitijela from 2010 to 2012; Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2001 to 2007 under President Kessai H. Note; and Attorney-General from 1996 to 1999.

He holds dual citizenship from Marshall Islands and Palau. He has a master's degree in international maritime law and a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Papua New Guinea.

He is a member of the University of the South Pacific Council and the Board of Regents, and is on the Board of the College of the Marshall Islands.
